comme des garçons spring 2010

i took out my shodo (japanese calligraphy) set that my mum sent me in a care package 4 years ago. shodo was something i actually continued to do the longest out of all of my extra curricular activities. i think for a good 12+ years (that's 50% of my life). and i do remember that at one point, my teacher's master in japan had carved a personalized stamp for me for passing a certain degree. at the time it was one of those things where you dreaded going on a friday evening after school for a few hours and never really understood what this time and practice can mean in your life. of course, winning a few awards with this and attaining a rank in this can be a great feeling, but to never quit something is another thing to be proud of.

my mum and recently, someone who i truly respect (who will be anonymous here..) said to me

'continual efforts are a prerequisite to success'

so true.

Eri,

This post truly moves me; I resonate with the idea there is something to be said for sticking through with a task. I also love how you used some of the old with new.

Hope you're keeping well <3

Shoot, bang.

The illustrations are beautiful. I'm no aesthete, but I really love the delicacy of your drawings and the way the ink looks with them- so solid and dark.

I used to be fascinated by ink as a child, when I did calligraphy- one of my favourite pastimes was dropping ink into water, one drop at a time, watching it swirl till the water was too murky to see through.
